lets be right about it, we dont need 100% WAV hack fleets, we dont need signs or rooflights on PH

Sussex, we managed many years with only about 1 in 50 hacks able to carry wheelchairs, now its only 1 in 50 jobs NEED a wav, is that progress?

actually both the examples above say the same thing/same ratio

as for PH signage, why would anyone think its needed seeing as my LA have a "no signage" plating option, which i could opt for...... plus if one LA thinks signage is a bad thing why should another requre it? wouldnt hacks prefer private hire to carry no signage, thereby widening the visible confusion between (say) a TX2 and an plain mondeo?

rogue taxi drivers? well the public are far more likely to approach a vehicle with signs than one without, and the rogue car with no signs or plate might get nicked for simple kerb crawling....

I'm more inclined to share your viewpoint in a rural setting, but in the cities all taxis, IMO, should be WAVs. Let's face it most large cities have a 100% WAV taxi fleet, and I don't see or read the trade in those manors actively lobbying to change.

Getting rid of PH signage will not stop illegal taxis operating with illegal taxi signage.

IMO PH signage ensures that those that have booked cars get into the cars they have booked.

When I started in 19 canteen there was nothing in place, no licences required just public hire insurance, a taxi sign made out of an old street light cover painted white with number plate sticker saying taxi held on with bungees, it looked good on top of my Hillman hunter estaite :D
Then 20 years ago some nice man in the council decided we had to pay to do the job so in came licencing and meters, still no knowledge test though, there should be as some of the new drivers need a town street map to go 200 yards

how? unless they know the car, in which case they wont get in the wrong one will they

nope, no signs are best for PH, as is obvious if my LA does have that option and some have a "no plate but plated" option

its not a 2 tier (HC/PH) system here its 3 tier - HC/PH and special event, so explain that, when most "special event" cars here seem to be simply PH by another name but thats OK with the LA

The punters will know which firm they ordered the car though, so the chances of a punter getting into a vehicle with different numbers on is slim.
