New Southend taxi company closes down

A CAB company set up by Southend businessman Philip Miller has closed down. My Town Cabs and Private Hire was shut late yesterday afternoon with drivers reportedly told at 4pm. The company was only set-up at the start of April by Mr Miller, who is also the boss of Adventure Island.

In a statement on the cab firm’s website, he said: “It is with sadness I have to announce the closure of My Town Cabs and Private Hire with immediate effect. “Unfortunately, My Town has not worked out as well as I’d expected and I have spent a small fortune trying to break into a market that is virtually impregnable.”

He added: “In this current economic climate, I cannot continue investing large sums of money with no hope of return, so have had to make this difficult decision.”

He also thanked all the people who have been customers of the company and My Town’s managing director Kevin Jarvis “for his tireless work in trying to make the business a success”. Mr Miller said: “My old dad always taught me – you cannot back winners every time”. Around 20 drivers are thought to have been working for the company.

I realise that you didn't write it Sussex, but it should have read "The Company was working for around 20 drivers" as the pay the company, not vice-versa.
