Taxi Driver Online

Please can somebody on here qoute any specific legislation or explain in laymans terms if I can or cannot accept telephone bookings to go and pick a customer up in another district and drop them off in that district. i.e. the journey does not start or finish in my District at all.

I think I can, our local licensing enforcement officer disagrees. Any assistance would be most appreciated folks.

This is a very difficult one, as in the ancient act that covers it, telephones did not exist.

If I phoned your base in stoke, with a booking to come and pick me up in Manchester and drop me off anywhere else in the country other than Stoke, then that is perfectly legal.

I missed the point about Hackney carriages. Hackney carriages do not have to comply with the relevant section in the 1976 act, therefore the booking can be taken from anywhere in the country there is no pre booking legislation of this sort that applies to a Hackney carriage driver. Private hire is different.

As Mr Yorkie says when the main taxi act was written, phones didn't exist.

What has been clarified recently is the fact that taxi drivers don't need an operator's license to take bookings within their districts.

I'm not convinced they need one outside of their districts, but no acts, and no case law has clarified the situation.

after reading Sussex reply I think I understand what you are getting at,
but sadly you miss the point.

what free exchange of goods and services mean is this, if a spaniard or a frenchman, german or other eec person applies for a badge he must get one on the same terms as someone in the locality.

it does not mean you can take your taxi to spain say and ply, just beccause you are european.

I have today applied for a badge with another council, they are legaly bound (and of course they accept this) to give me a badge on the same terms as they issue badges to thier own citizens, but irt does not mean I can rank my present taxi on thier ranks

so when I get my Gateshead badge I will be equal (in thory only please) to other Gateshead drivers!

then I too can be called a Gateshead Angel and will have the same freedom to be thrown out of labour conference areas

How about this
If i have a HC license for say derwentside,can i work from a gateshead office as private hire.

I yet to read an act, or a judgement, that says you can't.

If this is true and it is perfectly legal and above board,this will open a lot of doors for HC drivers working in quiet areas.
I have been browsing this forum and found similar questions and most have the same response,in other words no regulations have been broken.

core, apparently this has been investigated by a Gateshead firm and a loophole apparently has been found, if this were the case and you could I would give careful consideration as to which other office you could work from with your Derwentside plate.
