You're quite right jinky, that was a bad assumption to make that there would be carpetbaggers amongst these applicants. Apologies to the applicants.

At the end of the day, and whether or not you buy or sell a plate. It is always worked by a qualified driver.

Don't confuse the de-facto sale of council property with the bona fide sale of a business. It's a different thing altogether, as you never actually own the plate and the company under which it operates is worthless without out.

The incorporation of a licence is simply there to facilitate an illegal trade in council property.

The carpet bagging jibe, is only ignorance targeted at those, for the most part, that know the difference.

The whole thing is just a con for the little people. :-|

Yep skull, it seems that the word carpetbagger has ruffled a few feathers here, which is quite ironic in that I meant it in a truly complimentary sense. I admire anybody that has the nous to take avantage of a system for financial gain in any field, not just the taxi trade.

jinky, is it true that one of the plates issued has been sold already? If what I have been told is true it sounds like he got a good price for it as well. Certainly a lot more than I'd be prepared to pay for it.
