Taxi driver kills self after chopping in-lawsA Penal taxi driver killed himself yesterday after chopping and stabbing the mother and sister-in-law of his estranged wife.
Praimchan Ramrattan, 49, was found dead, slumped over the steering wheel of his car at Rochard Road Junction, just after midday.
He died two hours later at the Penal Health Centre.
Earlier that day, Ramrattan went to Scott's Road, Penal where his wife, Kumarie Ramrattan, 38, had taken refuge. She had obtained a protection order and separation order from the court.
However, police said Ramrattan turned up at the house, and called out to his wife, holding a cutlass above his head.
His wife ran to the back of the house as Ramrattan walked onto the property.
The woman's mother Krishendaye Jaikaran, 62, came out of the house and was chopped across the left side of the neck, when she tried to prevent the man from entering the house.
The wife's sister-in-law Roopa Persad, 30, was chopped on the back when she tried to help the elderly woman.
The wounded women ran into the house and closed the door. However, police said Ramrattan was able to get in, and stabbed Persad in the chest.
Police said Ramrattan drank from a bottle containing a poison while in the car outside the house.
When found, there was a second empty bottle in the car, that contained poison, police said. The cutlass was also found.
The injured women were last night being treated at the Siparia District Hospital.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Rajcoomar, and Constables Khan and Bahadur visited the scene.
