One of the companys here have told their drivers that all fares even if picked up from the rank or street have to be radioed in because if they are not booked with the office the insurance is invalid. This is a company with a 100% Hackney fleet who don't even have a Private Hire operators licence. (yes I know that they don't need one) What they realy mean is "we don't trust you to pay your percentage if we don't know about the job."

It might also be so that the operator knows what cars they've got and where they are !

My drivers are not on percentage so it doesn't matter but they are usually pretty good at calling rank jobs in although I never body recording them HOWEVER under the new penalty point system introduced by the council I am supposed to record all rank jobs as well as phone bookings including Name of passengers Address dropped at telephone number of customer !!!!!

Yeah right I'm sure our customers would welcome such an invasion of their privacy. So I am not doing that I shall see if they ever bother to enforce it

That's always been the way it's been done in my manor.

But it still doesn't stop the drivers doing 'flyers' (jobs not radioed in at all and the driver pockets the whole fare, particularly if they are really short runs) or declaring a fare at a lot less that what it actually is and pocketing the difference.

Plus of course if they don't call in a flyer then the controller might give them another job in preference to other drivers unaware that they've just had one.

I have no issues with the company requiring drivers to radio jobs in, it is the reason given for them having to radio in that made me laugh.

all we ever did was call clear when dropping, wherever

then again we paid base rent only, no extra
