Yes, but we were all assuming your were around the 70 mark, so the date you provided was hardly conclusive proof that you were joking

However, the giveaway for me was the bit where you said you "pashed and shat" in the cab, which just had to be a joke.

Or at least I hope it was

Thus, we are now authorities to praise, or condemn ?. Yer’ Taxi Drivers !..... Or Drivers o’ Taxis... What ever ye’ feckin’ want, same as me !. Get over it and stop being so pretentious

Maybe I should have attached a couple o’ smiley emoticons to let the reader know that the post was meant to be jocular...... Dearie me..

I've been doing this job longer than most, but not as long as some, and in that time have worked some very crazy long hours, and I have never ever done 87 jobs in a day.

Between 40 and 50 is the most I can think of.

When I worked for a circuit in my town well over ten years ago I'm sure you could do seven or eight jobs an hour when it was busy. Most were going rtfc and the flagfall was only £1.50 and went on forever, so the average job was something like £2, so even then we weren't exactly making a fortune.

But that was with busy traffic and a hopeless controller (although give them their due, one man/woman with a manual system doing perhaps the thick end of a thousand jobs in a shift couldn't really be expected to do much more than take the call and despatch the next free car rather than the nearest one) so in a small town like Skippy's with little traffic and few impediments such as traffic lights (I assume) then I'm perhaps not as cynical as most about his job total.

If there were permanent queues at the rank in my town then I suspect I'd be able to do ten or so street jobs per hour - assuming no big out-of-town jobs - and that's assuming always coming back empty.

Thus if Skippy was able to minimise dead mileage and the people he was picking up weren't faffing about too much and not going very far, then he could certainly clock up quite a big job total. :-|

Well, let me tell you, I've worked rugby internationals with the city bursting at the seams and never come close to 87 Jobs. Seven or eight jobs and hour for twelve hours, is a pipe dream. Oh and as for your "ten or so street jobs" not a chance, this is fantasy bordering on the delusional. #-o

But remember I'm talking a small town with little traffic, no traffic lights, minimal waiting at junctions etc thus a totally different proposition from a big city with a big sporting event on. Probably a lot fewer speed humps and the like than you're used to as well.

The average job in my town is about a mile, and at night this takes about three minutes there and three minutes back, thus if it was non-stop you could do around ten an hour, even with 50% dead mileage.

Try thinking in terms of working exclusively within a big housing estate all night, and that's probably more akin to what I'm talking about. No one is going very far, but if the work is there than you can do lots of jobs in a relatively short period of time.
