I built myself (for my studies) a roof cam system.... and in my 'own world' I test out small weather proof cams and different lenses from the perspective of above my car roof looking forward. etc.
One of these sytems happened to be running at the time.
The answer was there but none of us spotted it - It was not a recognised tamper proof unit (it is home made), therefore they could claim that the evidence was tainted/interfered with.
Well spotted.... cabby john.... appreciate note
In form of cams..... I can only knock up or advise (should anyone, for some extraordinary reason, need):
* a roof cam set up to film journeys and road stuff (need legal attachments)
* a scientific study 'critter-cam' (attach to a critter... for wildlife study.... errm not a customer though)
* an underwater multi-cam real-time and or timelapse recording system (wldlife study)
* a cam system to measure physics attributes, in the form of bending light rays in real time.... as you do

(just for fun... please don't ask

)
Back to issue...
I popped this topic up due to working alone (as drivers do) and having this experience... only to discover things like this CAN be dealt with as 'NOT HAPPENED'.....
the weakness is decision based on NUMBERS saying 'whatever happened' beit truth or lie....
driver = MAXIMUM of one (unless lucky enough for outside influence)
passengers = MINIMUM of one... often more = win.... no matter the actual truth.
Not good odds for the safety of driver and or drivers reputation. My point again being CCTV is valuable way of 'letting others' witness what occurred = driver now NOT maximum of ONE... but as many as see... the evidence.
on that note....
there is an important issue to be noted regarding the use of CCTV in taxis... i.e for the use of evidence... as has just been touched by cabby john and gobby:

The same thing will happen with Taxi CCTV if the driver or his association has no influence as data controllers to view the footage.
I'm at this stage of discovering limits of legality and use for mine... even if just for education, discusion etc.
For taxi CCTV this is an issue to 'get right set up'..... else any footage might not be worthy for court of law evidence.
