Maybe the less taxis there are the more manners ? So you will allways get some that dont play the game but most hackneys do here.I would know here who it was so i would payback tenfold if someone pulled a stroke on me.

Tell me, how does a driver paying £150 per week just for a plate (in York, say) contribute to upholding etiquette?

maybe coz he knows a fare will come along eventually, whereas in a deregulated area it could be two weeks?

In my limited experience.

When Customers come to the Rank, they all seem to do so at about the same time, almost like passengers getting off a Train or coming out of a Bingo Hall. Not necessarily in groups but almost as if, from their various places, they had looked at their watches and said "Twenty past. Time to go home!".

Obviously, that's not always the case but, it seems to happen with amazing regularity.

Yes, but on average the queue jumper is always going to gain an advantage. They may be greedy but that doesn't make them stupid.

I've lost count of the number of times that I've had to wait another hour or even more behind a queue jumper.

Which of course is why they're so desperate to get past you in the first place.
