Taxi driver stroked his passenger, court is told A taxi driver repeatedly stroked a female passenger’s leg and grabbed her chest while he drove her home in the early hours, a court has heard.
Khalid Mahmood picked up the woman and her friend from outside the Source Bar, in Baker Street, Shrewsbury, and is alleged to have began stroking her leg, despite her asking him to stop.
During the short journey to the Belle Vue area of the town, Mahmood is also accused of grabbing the woman’s right breast, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard yesterday.
The 35-year-old, of Mafeking Road, Hadley, Telford, denies sexual assault on November 26, 2010.
Mr Peter Arnold, prosecuting, said the women were picked up at 3.45am.
He added: “He placed his hand on the victim’s knee and began stroking her leg. She said no, but he kept doing it, with her pushing his hand away and saying no each time.
“To try and help, the victim’s friend, who was sat in the back of the car, told him they were in a relationship with each other, but this did not stop him.”
The victim said she had not given him the ‘come on’.
She said: “I said no, but he kept doing it. I had not encouraged him in any way and then he grabbed my chest.”
Giving evidence to the jury, Mahmood said the woman had been baring her breasts to him and ‘lifting her skirt up and down’ the whole journey, but he was ‘just trying to drive’.
