Nottingham allow Taxis and normal cars under the Station roof.

Ever since the night I waited half an hour to get onto the high street rank then got shifted by the police when I was next cab to get on I don't join a rank if there's no room. Now during the week after about 9pm I find it difficult to get on any city centre rank. Add the 10-20 cabs that sit in Waverley and I think I'll be driving around constantly. Bad news.
Like its already been said taxi drivers don't exactly pose a big terror threat. Most are scared to get a scratch or bump on the vehicle never mind blow it up. Anyone that had the desire to do such a thing can just walk down the ramp with a bag full of whatever they want.
Genuine shame for elderly or disabled people having to make their way up to the bridge to get a taxi too. Doesn't make any sense

Imagine how clever Bin Laden really was to have the foresight to establish a sleeper cell in Edinburgh's taxi trade, get them through the knowledge, past police checks and disclosure Scotland just so they could languish in our trade, earning a pittance, in the hope that the Olympics would come to London so they could blow themselves up on the Waverley station concourse.

What a guy.

This has all to do with the fact that it is Network Rail that has long wanted to banish cabs from the station. Presumably because the space they take up could more profitably be used for retail purposes.

Commercial greed has been put before customer needs. But then our whole transport system has never paid any real heed to what customers need. That's why any form of travel in the UK is poor quality, infrequent service, and hugely and prohibitively expensive while still being heavily subsidised by taxpayers. This is just another example of how our transport system fails us all.

Ever since the taxi rank was removed from the down ramp, which was then virtually taken out of productive use, traffic has been a problem in the station. The waverley sits at a lower level to transport links. This latest wheeze is just going to cause huge and unnecessary strife for the elderly and infirm, physically challenged, as well as passengers burdened with luggage and/or young families.

It is breathtaking that Network Rail is allowed to be so callous.

Network rail should be ashamed of itself.

And the government should be telling them NO!

At least Taxis can pick up on the Rank on waverley bridge....what about Private Hire and Private cars, where can they stop near Waverley station to pick up...pity the poor mother Unable to stop anywhere near the place for fear of a parking ticket whos only trying to collect a daughter from the station..

And what exactly are the new Security Anti Terrorist Guidlines they speak of? Wouldnt the Bigger security Risk come from any one of the Thousands carrying Rucksacks Daily through the Station unchecked.

Its a load of Sh*ite thats going to put Tourists and Locals off Edinburgh station and redirect them out of Town to the Airport.

Could I suggest they are using terrorism as an excuse....jasbar has it about right.....if Edinburgh has something to do with an Olympics 400 odd miles away, I'm sure it'll be news to the olympics.

there are 10's of thousands of miles of rail lines in this country and numerous reservoirs....lots of local airports and 1000's of bus stations.....removing a few cabs from Waverley station isnt going to make a dent in any terrorist threat.

Making the public scared is a single stage in reasoning........who profits?

I'd like to know the true reason they want cabs out.....because on a list.....terrorism wouldnt be anywhere near the top.

Isn't it strange no other ranks inside stations down the east or west coast lines will be closed to taxis?????
No London station is doing it, and I have checked on the London forums

Well 2 years ago it was cited as envioromental that all vehicles would be banned apart from emergency vehicles and delivery vehicles between a certain time.

Remember the Frank Lay chap? The one that said I was talking crap back then as he had contacts in network rail

It's been on the cards since 2009 and anyone could have found it out,let the public cause an outcry as they have been stopping taxis entering for years during the hogmany and summer festival at times and joe public moans but do nothing about it.

A cop in the station told me a year and a half ago that the company was going to pull this stunt.

I take it there will be a letter to the editor claiming the disabled and old OAPs will be left stranded outside or inside the stations, and that no other station is doing this
