Woman raped in Central Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped in Milton Keynes early yesterday (10/3).

Between 3.30am and 4am the 32-year-old woman was on her way home after a night out in Central Milton Keynes. She was walking from Xscape towards Fishermead looking for a taxi to take her home. A car stopped and she got in the front passenger seat, believing it to be a taxi.

The driver took her to an area she thought was a car park in an industrial unit in Linford Wood where she was raped. The driver then drove her to an area near her home and she returned to her home address.

The offender is described as a light-skinned Asian man, with stubble and dark hair. He spoke clear English with a slight accent.

Det Insp Nick Glister, overseeing the investigation, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity or anyone matching the man’s description in the area.

“While we do not want to cause alarm, we think it would be prudent for people to take extra care and remain vigilant when out and about in the city centre at night.”

Anyone who has any information about this incident should contact the Milton Keynes CID team via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 101.

If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

Chair: Is it time to change the legislation and stop the distinction between hackney and private hire?

Councillor Tallack: My view is that that would be very helpful, because the public don’t understand the difference.

The problem is that the public get into private hire vehicles precisely because they don’t understand the difference. Late at night, the people who are looking for a way of getting home are infrequent users of taxis because they are people who have usually gone to an entertainment district, would normally travel by buses which have stopped or private cars which they haven’t taken because they have had something to drink. There is no reason why we should expect them to understand the difference between going to a hackney rank and waiting for the hackney to arrive and telephoning a private hire car. In my view it would help the situation enormously if all forms of taxis could do both forms of finding their customer.

I wonder if Councillor Tallack will contact the yound lady and point out that even if there was a single tier of licensing she would still have been raped?

Councillor Tallack: We were finding that when we were talking about late in the evening and so on there were just no hackney carriages on the ranks. That situation changed, and changed pretty quickly, after we did it eight years ago and I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to that previous situation.

Seems there is no proof she even got into a taxi or phv anyway.

I'm going to sit back on this one....doesn't seem right the way the movie ends.

I'd like to go to Acacia Ave please driver ->

Sure but I'll just pop into the car park first and rape you, then cos I'm a good guy I'll drop you off near home so you don't get attacked.

So we have seperate scenario's

1 - She was raped

2 - She didn't want to pay with cash, but felt like a slag afterwards

3 - She has an agenda for cabbies, or anyone else for that matter

Lets hope either way the truth comes out, but right now I think if it was actually a cabby he picked up a nutter, and I hope I'm right as well because then it will mean there was no crime committed other than a stitch up agenda.

As for Cllr Tallack, perhaps if they stopped the undercutting by PH then people wouldn't take the chance on a cheaper ride in a car that they aren't sure is even a cab anyway, and what a logic, women only get raped because of a two tier cab system, someone should explain to the cllr that a rapist is a rapist, it's not the cab trade that rapes women, it's the unfit sort they they are all to willing to license that does, it's the gun and the hand all over again, pathetic that these people hold position with their uneducated view on the wheels of life and it's motives.

But if there was more clarity about what was a taxi and what wasn't then she mighn't have thought that the vehicle in question was a taxi.

In the context of the article I assumed the word 'taxi' was used generically, ie either HC or PH.

About 30% of HC are saloon the rest purpose built.
But opposite xscape there's always a line of ph mainly skyline taxis Just parked outside the venue so if it is a taxi probably be one of the skyline taxi boys
There always there untill around 5am see it all ways.

yes it is a purpose built concrete jungle ! but the cabs are certainly a motley variety if you want distinctive and easy to recognise all Wav policies don't really achieve that

Man Arrested Over Bogus Taxi Rape

Thames Valley Police have now arrested a man in connection with the rape of a woman in Milton Keynes last Saturday.

A 29 year old man from the town was picked up by police last night and is currently being questioned.

Between 3.30am and 4am last Saturday morning, a 32 year old on her way home after a night out was walking from Xscape towards Fishermead looking for a taxi to take her home.

A car stopped and she got in the front passenger seat, believing it to be a taxi.

The driver then took her to an area she thought was a car park near Lingford Wood where she was attacked before he dropped her near her home.

Police have been urging people to take extra care when on a night out in the town.

I wonder about the accuracy.....given the original headline presumably the driver was a PH driver?
