Thirteen councils in Sussex.

Three restricted.
Brighton and Hove Flag £2.60 2 mile £6.20
Mid Sussex Flag £2.80 2 mile £6.40
Hastings Flag £2.80 2 mile £5.70

Ten delimited.
Eastbourne Flag £2.60 2 mile £5.70
Lewes Flag £2.80 2 mile £5.60
Crawley Flag £3.60 2 mile £5.80
Wealdon No council set rate.
Rother Flag £2.40 2 mile £6.20
Arun Flag £2.50 2 mile £6.40
Adur Flag £2.80 2 mile £6.60
Chichester Flag £3.00 2 mile £5.80
Horsham Flag £3.40 2 mile £5.50
Worthing Flag £3.00 2 mile £5.60

Flag average in three restricted = £2.73

Flag average in ten delimited = £2.90

Two mile average fare in three restricted = £6.10

Two mile average fare in ten delimited = £5.91

So down here in paradise it will cost you 17p less to get into a restricted cab, but 19p more to get out of it.

Remind me how many punters pay when they get in and don't go nowhere? :-k

What I don't understand is why there is a need for the council to regulate the fares

Basically if they don't you'd see £4 pm in some places, and the real kicker is that PH can set what they feel like, 90% of cab problems would leave overnight if fares were set by the council for both HC and PH, enhanced service levels should surface then rather than get the cheap one even though he's going to give us a white knuckle ride and potentially overcharge us anyway, no arguement when the meter shows what the fare is, unless it's been tampered with that is.

I think fares would eventually regulate themselves, I mean if they were set too high then people would stop using the highly priced taxis unless they offered an exceptional service. I think once the tariff is set then the meter should be set and sealed and the tariff should be clearly visible to the customer before they enter the vehicle. I also don't understand why you feel that just because a fare is cheap the driver is sh*te

@ Toots, it is locally, imagine a Hack that is somewhere around the mid mark in the league table then think what a PH that undercuts 30% then gives 10% on that is going to be like, even the bus company is worried they are so cheap, and ppl still moan at them about the price, we tend to get business and visitor custom these days along with a few ppl who simply don't want the PH experience.

Up your way it maybe different, I know in Southampton the fares are inline with each other, times come to get the real bad guy, and he's the one quite happy to take £135 for a radio each week and then not consider how and if those drivers are going to be able to legally make a living, I'd be on a PH myself if it weas a sensible choice, but all I'd be doing is giving them the extra I earned each week so it's a no point one, a mate of mine went on at 9am one Monday, and gave the radio back at 11.30am that morning stating it wasn't for him, he had a little taste of it and decided it was a hammering to nothing.

Our fares are quite similar to the taxis too and as I have said many times the reason I am ph is because I have no desire to drive a purpose built vehicle (having tried it for a little longer than your mate, lol). I still don't see a good argument for the council setting fares on taxis as ph can already charge as little or as much as they like

To stop one grossly undercutting another m'dear, competition is fine but it should come from multiple companies, not one with a monopoly and a fare scale to rival a bus company, one that is now 90% non British drivers, stands out a mile doesn't it, wholesale abuse of an immigrant workforce because the local can't afford to work on there anymore.
