Were licensing ok with this ?

Yes, Licensing came and looked at it and said theres nothing wrong with it.

Hackneys against PH ?....not at all....we both have rules and as far as I am concerned if rules (and laws) are followed I have no problem. The vast majority of passengers that pass through Manchester Airport go with pre-booked private hire....we only object when co's like Arrow cars are given ofices next to the Hackney rank and are allowed to ''rank up'' ...both these activities are against the law.....Hundreds of ''new'' hackney drivers have come to work at the airport in the last two/three years...no problems there.....simply...just follow rules and regulations/laws.[/quote]

Why does the hackney and ph sides of the trade "hate" each other so much,

Not sure both sides hate each other, just that large elements of the taxi trade hate the PH side.

The PH side generally don't give a stuff, and concentrate their energies on servicing their customer base.

I get the impression that in some areas, because the standards required to become a ph driver are not as high as they are to become a HC driver, the HCs feel they are superior thus more entitled to have work. The PH need to up their game but they won't because most drivers are controlled by operators who don't want things to become difficult for them to get drivers, also unqualified people need to work and it's by far one of the easiest trades to get into

im in my 3rd LA now and not seen any difference in the driver requirements in fact theyve all been "dual badges"

Yeah that's why I said in some areas

At a trade meeting yesterday 7 June, it was decided to make one last try to negotiate the position with the Airport group.

Negotiation is always the best way, but, the Airport group and the Council Licensing have repeatedly told the trade where to go. Agreement cannot be reached on what to do next, me thinks Arrow are here to stay.

I suspect they have paid a high price to stay there for a certain time, maybe 2 or 3 years.

Clearly after that contract runs it's time the question is will they re-tender?

Update on Arrows at Manchester Airport....Yes, they are still here BUT the drivers are not earning enough to keep them ...so there is a huge turnover of drivers....new ones come and are promised the earth...but then reality sinks in....they cannot make a living ..so they move on...and new ones replace them..

New ones are recruited from the ''taxi academy'' which tells them they can earn £600 per week...and help them get a PH badge....they last 2-4 weeks and leave..
So, Mr Cwright ....what happened to your predictions ??..
I see you have gone into hiding....
The original plans ..oh we will start with 50 cars and soon go to 100 ...have failed to materialise...they did not even make it to the 50 ! ! ha ha

Sooner or later they (Arrows) will leave..........as I dont believe the co can make any profits here...

Remind me please why those drivers can't earn yet the black cabs can? Is it the % they pay to the operator?

And if that operator isn't doing well, then why do the black cab drivers still want them removed?

It doesn't matter to an operator if there is a huge turnover, so long as they have enough cars

Again so long as they have enough vehicles to cover their overheads then I think they will stay

Sussex, In answer to your question the sums are as follows :

Driver gets 69% of the take and the co get 31%

Driver pays rents of £200 per week plus FUEL costs and also for tyres and any other wear and tear...

So, driver earns £1,000 in a week...is then left with £690 .less .fuel of ...£250...plus rent £200...is then left

with £240 from which he has to pay for tyres etc..

This is an extreme situation as its very difficult if not impossible for any driver to ''take'' a £1,000 in a week...

Why do blackcabs want the operator removed ?....We dont want anybody removed as long as they operate

within the laws of the land and we have a level playing field (which we dont have at present).

On the other hand Black Cab drivers can go and work in the city when there are no flights at the airport

which arrow drivers are not allowed to do.

Toots :..I dont think they are able to meet their overheads as they are far too high and cannot be recovered

from the small number of cars they are able to run at the airport.

We'll just have to wait and see won't we. I guess it depends whether the rest of the company can supplement the Manchester airport crew until things pick up
