  Tory peer Lord Fraser of Carmylie will take part in a public debate in London next month backing the motion that "It's time to let Scotland go".

He has agreed to appear on the same side as writer Gerry Hassan and former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie, arguing the case for Scotland's departure from the United Kingdom.

He told The Herald last night he was not predicting the outcome of the 2014 referendum, nor saying he wanted to see independence happen, but expressing his view that the decline of Unionist sentiment north of the Border made it inevitable in the longer term.

He added: "Once upon a time you could travel from the Cromarty Firth to the Border, having coffee with me in Dundee and lunch with Malcolm Rifkind in Edinburgh and pass through Tory territory all the way.

"Nowadays if the Tories gained five MPs in the whole country there would be a roar of champagne corks going off, but the truth is there will be no recovery for the Tories this side of independence.

"I also sense a significant shift in England – thanks to First Minister Alex Salmond's skilful handling of events – of people saying, 'If you want it, off you go," and I think his talk of England losing a surly neighbour and gaining a good friend has been a very good line."

Lined up against the motion in the planned Spectator debate on June 27 are two Scots Tories representing English constituencies – Sir Malcolm Rifkind, MP for Kensington and Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and the Border.

Never mind, Stationtone, I'm sure things will be wonderful under a Scottish Government. I probably won't know what to do with all that money and the free time to spend it. Welcome to the Scottish utopia where the wealthy give to the poor, and your government works in your interests and not that of the super rich.

I'm with you Tone, no doubt about it.

Where do I sign up?

No that's right Gusmac. No one is promising a utopia, but I can't see how someone speaking in a Scottish accent will change anything for the better - different day, same bull*hit. #-o

It's simply not in the interests of the super rich or their political puppets to represent your interests.

You really need to give yourself a shake on this one gusmac.

Think of it this way.....easier to change a country of 6 million than a union of 60 million.

I don't need a shake Skull.

Its a Population of around 5.2 Million, but Gusmac has allowed for the extra 800,000 Migrants that Eck wants to entice here in order to keep his local Curry Palace well staffed.

I would guess that Eck's local curry house is already more than adequately staffed, since your union has been rolling out the welcome wagon to all and sundry for years. :?

If this comes as a shock to you, you really should get out more.

You're probably right. It's a common enough sentiment amongst the Tories.
If it happens, then it's down to the English people who vote for them.

It's hardly a reason for the Scots to vote to stay.

Aye “proud to be Scottish" it's almost like you chose to be born in Scotland to Scottish parents. Anyone else might think your patriotism was an accident of birth but not you Stationtone. You are one of Gods, chosen people, living in the best small country in the world.

I don't suppose it ever occurred to you, that you might be brainwashed by your social conditioning and have lost or never knew how to question your beliefs.

“Quick, let's get the Brave Heart movie on and watch how great Scotland really is. Oh and once we've done that we can wave our tartan flags and run around the streets in our kilts.”

You need your head looked at, how does anyone believe this shi*e?
