Taxi driver tried to make me touch him, says child

TWO children aged under 16 told a court a taxi driver employed on school runs beat them and showed them pornography.

Stephen Monaghan tried to get one child to touch him improperly, showed them films of people being "rude" and beat them with a belt, Bristol Crown Court was told.

The court has heard he also showed another child pornography and beat them.

When the allegations came to light police analysed computers at his home and discovered 45 indecent images of children.

The 44-year-old, of Selbrooke Crescent, Frenchay, denies two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two charges of causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under 16-year-old.

He denies causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under 16-year-old.

He also denies six counts of making indecent photographs of youngsters.

The jury watched video-recorded interviews the children had with police in which they alleged wrongdoing.

One alleged victim recounted a time when they were sat next to Monaghan and he grabbed their hand and pulled it to the top end of his belly.

The child said: "He didn't say anything at all.

"I thought he was trying to get me to touch his middles. I didn't touch anything."

The young complainant said Monaghan also struck them and another child with a belt.

They told of another occasion when Monaghan showed them adult films on a computer. They told the court: "He said he would rip me to pieces if I didn't see the rude videos."

Insisting they were telling the truth, the child said Monaghan had also asked them to perform a sex act on him but they had refused.

Another victim said Monaghan would ask them to close their eyes, saying he was giving them a sweet, and then strike their left hand with the silver buckle of a black leather belt.

The child told the court: "There's a picture of him with a knife in his hand on the belt. He hit me twice. It felt painful."

The child said Monaghan showed them three pictures of people without clothes on, which made him feel sick.

One picture showed naked teenagers aged 13 or 14, they said, while other photos showed older naked couples either laying on a bed or sat in a car.

The youngster said they had not made up the allegations.

The case continues.

It sound as if they may have been too zealous in bringing the prosecution.

LA's and the CPP are always overly zealous in bringing prosecutions, in order to be seen to be on the ball they all take a "Burn the Witch" attitude to everything these days.

Regardless of what the result is that mans life is in ruins and maybe justifiably so. I'm not a great fan of naming and shaming until the naming and shaming is proven

School-rundriver cleared of abuse

A SCHOOL-RUN taxi driver accused of child abuse told the Post he is "relieved" after being formally cleared of all charges.

It was claimed Stephen Monaghan tried to get an eight-year-old girl to touch him improperly, showed her films of people being "rude" and beat her with a belt, Bristol Crown Court was told.

The court was told he also showed a six-year-old boy pornography and beat him. When the allegations came to light police analysed computers at his home and discovered 45 indecent images of children.

The 44-year-old, of Selbrooke Crescent, Frenchay, denied two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two charges of causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under 16-year-old, regarding the girl.

He denied causing a child to watch a sexual act and cruelty to an under 16-year-old, regarding the lad.

He also denied six counts of making indecent photographs of youngsters.

A trial was halted on May 17, after the Crown Prosecution Service conceded they were unable to prove their case involving the indecent images.

Yesterday James Bennett, prosecuting, said after further consideration of the remaining allegations the Crown was offering no evidence regarding them.

Mr Monaghan had previously admitted possessing 12g of plant material cannabis for personal use in 2010.

Rosaleen Collins, defending, said her client had not worked since suffering a second stroke in 2007.

She said: "He has had quite a difficult time since his arrest in 2010.

"The stress of this case has taken its toll. He has lost weight and been unable to sleep."

Judge Michael Roach gave him a 12-month conditional discharge, recognising his early guilty plea for possessing cannabis, poor health and the fact that he may well have been cautioned for his cannabis possession in 2010.

Mr Monaghan told the Post: "I feel relieved justice has been done."

And why is he not being charged over these ?

Well I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but in this case it does look like a case of there is deffo a warning that this guy ain't suitable, trouble is there is no set definition of a [edited by admin], a former school mate has just gone down for 13 for supplying alcohol to male minors in exchange for sex, he first offended 15 years ago, it's taken this long for the victims (scout group) to come forward, I bumped into him about 6 years ago in a shop and said hello and I noticed something wasn't right with him, kinda gave me a hello like he was talking to someone he'd met once in life rather than an old mate, I thought it strange at the time but dismissed it as ppl moving on tbh, and this guy didn't look like a [edited by admin] and it's another shot in my trust pot as once again someone I regarded as ok has revealed themselves to be a vile ...T.

If the Crown could prove their case, then they would have done. The fact they couldn't means the evidence wasn't as clear cut as the article suggests.
