Leeds taxi driver dies after collision with stolen car

Published on Sunday 24 June 2012 12:35

A Leeds taxi driver has died following a collision with a stolen car.

Police sealed off Argie Avenue, in Kirkstall, after the incident occurred at around 11.30pm last night.

The 49-year-old male driver of the private hire vehicle was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

It is understood that the stolen BMW collided with the maroon coloured Skoda Octavia private hire vehicle between the junctions of Woodside View and Burley Wood Lane.

The occupants of the BMW, who are believed to be two males, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene in the direction of Woodside View.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses are urged to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously and in confidence, on 0800 555 111.

My sympathies to his family one thing skodas are not renowned for is crashworthiness mind you I assume the stolen car was being driven recklessly so even a tank might not have saved him !

Yeah me too, again someone innocent pays while the guilty walk away, no doubt the plea will be I'm not a bad boy I just won't ever be able to own a BMW so when I saw one all locked up and lonely I just had to gratify both me and the car, it's the owners fault really he should've kept it locked away in a bunker out of sight of scroats like me.

Pieces of garbage, they always seem to be capable of fleeing the scenes of such horrendous crashes.
My condolences to the loved ones and friends of the victim. R.I.P.
