PUBLIC LIABILITY

Often causes confusion this. Public Liability cover does not deal with issues relating to the motor vehicle itself or the use of it. Anything involving the car i.e. travelling in it or mounting and dismounting or causing an accident whilst driving even if no collision is covered under the Road Traffic Act element of the policy. Public Liability cover provides for acts of negligence whilst executing or dicharging your duties as a taxi driver. To claim, some one would have to prove negligence on your part. An example might be if you clouted a pedestrian with a suitcase you were carrying to someones door, or if you managed to tip a wheelchair user out of the chair whilst pushing them up the garden path.

One thing I do know for sure

[edited by admin] happens, and when it does, your insurance company wont be holding your hand cos they need both hands free to pick your pocket as you drown

LV include PL in my policy, but thats not an act of charity, they stole £800 off me in December and are in no rush to refund it, PL cost me £150 the year before so id say they are in front

The passengers are not covered by public liability as said by 2jobs. they are covered because they are a 3rd party and the insurance covers 3rd parties.

Now there's a way to stop touting, if the driver knows he risks being claimed back off by the insurance company perhaps he'll think twice about it, and I don't believe any PH touter realises he is liable for costs paid out by the insurance company.

Anyone got any evidence that this has actually happened to a PH driver? and if it has what was the Outcome or cost to them?

I doubt it, I would think the insurance company wrote it off.
