James Pilgrim was caught biting taxi driver Lee Curtis during the assault in Hastings A Hastings taxi driver who was headbutted and bitten by a passenger has said he feared for his life.
Lee Curtis was assaulted by 43-year-old James Pilgrim on 19 July in Newgate Road, Hastings.
The attack was caught on the taxi's CCTV at about 00:30 BST and shows the driver trying to escape the assault.
Pilgrim admitted causing actual bodily harm at Hastings Magistrates' Court. The case has been referred to Lewes Crown Court for sentencing.
Mr Curtis suffered cracked ribs and had to have six stitches in his fingers.
'It was horrendous'He said: "I was trapped, I couldn't get out, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything.
"I tried pushing him away and he bit my finger.
"He headbutted me and when I did eventually get out he tried to bite my neck and ears. It was horrendous."
Chris Vale, manager of the taxi firm 24/7 Transport Solutions, said he had installed cameras in all of his cars.
"We're very concerned," he said. "They are at risk during the day as well as the night time."
