Story unconfirmed, but knowing the company, very believable.

A system driver (PH in Falkirk) was given the instruction to valet (£25 cost to him) his car and go to Glasgow Airport to collect an account customer and take him to somewhere outside Dundee. He duly obliged and put £40 diesel in to cover the journey. On returning to Falkirk he asked what he had to put on his account sheet.
Whatever's on the meter, he was told.
I don't have a meter, he replied.
So what was the mileage?
A total of 150 miles.(£255 on T1 metered rate)
So as you're on 50/50, you get £75

Not a bad earner for the plate baron, (no way he'll be submitting a pound a mile invoice) and a harsh lesson for the driver. If it turns out to be true, that is.

Id rather just work from home with no ties to anyone other than my clients...I cant rip myself off like other people could.

Even if I only done half that guys amount of runs I'd still make 50% more profit after costs..

And that run by google maps would be 185 miles in total.

I did a 10 mile each way return yesterday (total 40 miles), fuel £5, charged £30 and got a fiver tip

i may take up taxi work....

£25 is cheap - assuming it gets done - even our Iraqi car cleaners charge more for a full valet up here

I've toyed with the Idea of doing a Moblie Valeting service, even out here in the Semi Sticks there's enough interest in it and well-to-do rich folks to make it pay, Its not rocket science and the set up costs are no more expensive as taxiing or PH'ing.....might even be a decent fall back in these quieter times to do both Valeting by day and PH, by night....

But then again, I'm at an age where I want to be doing less...not more!!
