Yes.

he would need a Harrogate plated vehicle to run on a Harrogate ops licence, but as a York plated PH with a York ops licence he can take work from Harrogate, how he gets that work is the question

not rocket science

the problem is i would like to do it within the law because as soon as harrogate firms see you working around their town they will ring taxi licensing

If you have a York Plate and a York Operators license and a York drivers Badge, You need to take the calls at your York base, not in Harrogate.

Nothing to stop you having 2 phone numbers. AFAIK there's nothing to stop you advertising from whatever phone number you want. Divert the Harrogate one to your mobile or the York number.

PH can work anywhere as long as it's pre-booked.

The call is supposed to be answered at the operating address. I don't think that this would be the case here. The chap wants to take the calls in Harrogate. We had a similar situation here where an operator had his base in the next borough and although he had an operators license for our area and a car and driver based in our area and a telephone number for our area, the calls to this number were redirected to his main base in the other area and the council stopped him from doing this.

A 0800 number on divert to, and answered in York would legalise him taking Harrogate work then, ive a local code number which i answer in the car, so i suppose thats NOT legal, yet an emailed job (i get emails on my phone) would be legal....

his missus will his base op...

i rang bt up today and asked their advice you can now have a phone line from your broadband and you can have any code in the country put on that line they will then divert this number to your mobile at a one of cost per month so you dont pay for the diverted calls this then cant be illegal because the call would be going to the operator address with a harrogate code then diverted to my mobile for 45 pounds per month

All of this can be done and whether it is legal or not is questionable, but by having your operators license in York and using a Harrogate telephone number you are asking for someone to take a close look at what you are doing. If you use a York number or a non geographic number such as 0845, no one will give you a second glance.

i realize this and that is why people like me cant wait for full deregulation so all areas can be worked on a level playing field so people use who they would like to be carried by then it all boils down to service i know if i set up with a mercedes e class in harrogate i will run rings round the opposition because of the rule that your car has to be under 5 years old in harrogate all the cars are ex rep mondeos vectras with hugh miles they can then run them till they are 9 years old i went in to town the other day (harrogate) and the ranks look scruffy most of the cars look worn out and scratched dinted etc take that in comparison to york where there is no age limit and the ranks are full of beautiful clean older mercedes which proves my point that capping ages does not work plus all i hear from the drivers of mondeos vectras etc is clutch, flywheel, fuel pumps, and all manner of problems i have run mercedes e class mercs for 22 years with very little going wrong with them why would i want to join this gang i have a saying would you watch television on a park bench no of course not yet a lot of people will run park benches as taxis its all beyond me

I know you said that in jest, but my Mondeo is as perfect a PH vehicle as one can have.

And, IMO, it's far more comfortable that any Merc.
