Taxi driver injured in crash

Image

FIREFIGHTERS have had to cut the roof from a taxi after it crashed into a lamppost on a busy roundabout.

Police were called to Museum Road in Southsea shortly before 11.30am today after the silver car, which was carrying two passengers at the time, crashed.

Two fire crews from Southsea were called to the scene, where they removed the roof from the vehicle to free the driver.

Paramedics treated the driver at the scene.

Police say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, however he has been taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The two passengers who were travelling in the taxi are not believed to have been hurt in the crash.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘We were called at 11.24am today.

‘It appears as though a taxi has collided with a lamppost.

‘The driver is being treated at the scene for his injuries. They are not deemed to be life-threatening.

‘The people in the back of the taxi were not injured.’

One side of Museum Road is cordoned off as well as the Museum Road junction with High Street, Old Portsmouth, while the emergency services work at the scene.
