LIVERPOOL COUNCIL IS COMMITED TO EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS FROM ALL GROUPS AND MUST COMPLY WITH LEGISLATION ON SEX, RACE AND DISABILITY. THE COUNCIL WILL WORK TO ERADICATE DISCRIMINATION AND PREJUDICE AND CREATE EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY BOTH IN ITS ROLE AS AN EMPLOYER AND IN THE PROVISION OF SERVICES APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES ARE WELCOMED FROM ALL MEMBERERS OF THE COMMUNITY REGARDLESS OF THEIR AGE , RACE , COLOR NATIONALITY, CREED OR RELIGION . Many councils, like Liverpool, wouldn't know what equality was if it poked them in the eye.

And the likes of the T&G aren't much better. [-(

I dont really think its Liverpool City councils fault that people from minorities are not applying for licenses, do you?

I'm sure if anyone in Liverpool is selling a business they will not worry to whom they sell it.

I think you are 100% wrong there Sussex, all councils take a serious view regarding equality, in the context it is meant in this post.

Isn't that what made Bristol de-limit, following pressure from the CRE?

Seemed a rather convenient argument though didnt it?

we want licenses, the council didnt issue to anyone, then its a race crime?

hmm

got there limit back on afterwards didnt they?

quite amazing, and needed more publicity than it got, unfortunately as soon as anyone mentions race, people are rasist.

From my memory, in Bristol it was the case that none of the existing trade would employ drivers from the ethnic community (very PC).

Thus they couldn't enter the trade unless they bought plates, from those people who wouldn't employ them.

So the council de-limited (albeit for a year or so), and issued plates to those who couldn't gain work prior to those issues.

In other words, it was the sheer stupidity and bigotry of the existing trade, that led to Bristol de-limiting.

Experience tells me I should not post anymore on this issue.

I dont see it as a race issue, and tend to think that about Bristol too. Unfortunately whatever is said will be construed as racist, a sad indictment indeed.

I think you misunderstand what equality means

it does not mean all groups should be in equal strength! good god no, where I come from 80% of taxidrivers are from the new comonwealth(hows that for diplomacy dusty)

but women and white middle class men are still free to embrace this golden opportunity.

Women are not daft enough to work long hours for penuts, and if I was black, god forbid putting me in a taxi in Liverpool.

We also have the same "equality" rules. In our taxi industry...it is more difficult to find non-minorities driving a taxi! We have a few women, but mostly our drivers here are minorities!

Cap,
The young lady is from Canada, possibly she will not know about Mr Boycott. Yorkie's fame is universal though.
The line "wanted to thank Yorkie and tell him that as a woman, he is right" made me do a double take.
