Cop Squad episode 5/10

Cambridgeshire police operate a sting on PHC picking up on the street with undercover WPCs and confronted by Cab Office at final destination.

A simple operation that is carried out infrequently but enough to strip licences and create 'chatter' in the PHC community to act as a deterrant.

Low cost and effective. Chances of similar operations in Lothian & Borders - zero.

And all that might become illegal down here from November 1st.

It's little more than Entrapment, This individual crime wouldn't have happened if the officer had not set it up in the first place. even if the PH driver was a compulsive illegal touter he was lead into breaking the law by an officer of the law...that's a tad naughty.

Don't know if it is entrapment

If the undercover officers approach the PHC and ask if they want a fare, then yeah, entrapment as the officer is leading the driver into an illegal act

But if the PHC driver approaches the undercover officers and touting then it isn't entrapment as the driver IS performing an illegal act

Because the Rippa laws are being changed.

I take it this important issue isn't being discussed in the morgue forum.

Having looked at the gov web site, which is mind blowing,
So, cutting through the legal jargon, which you would need a PHD to begin to understand, does it meen that stings would become illegal?

Only if the offence's penalty is less than six months in jail.

Illegal hiring/touting doesn't carry a prison penalty, so councils can't, legally, IMO entrap or test purchase.

They can still do a sting under crime and disorder, plus invalidating insurance does carry prison sentence so there's ways round it IMO.

Maybe, but at least your council wont be able to use those cameras to suspend drivers for over ranking. \:D/
