99.9% of wheelchair users actually book in advance

That's so very true..the trouble is they're booking in advance with Charity Volunteers..regardless of Wheelchair, Limp, or bunionated big toe...It's just cheap local door to door Transport to all and sundry. #-o

That may be the case where you are, but it isn't here.

Not here either, 90 % of my work is rank/instant hiring. Some of that would you believe is from wheelchair users.

The economics of having have a WAV are lost on you BP as your LA allows quite old vehicles to be plated

If I wanted a WAV it would have to a lot newer than yours, whilst income from wheelchair jobs couldn't justify it, which is why very few of the hacks in my LA are WAV's, maybe only 10% of the "fleet", but ive never read of any complaint about lack of WAV's in the local press

Your right youve lost me. Tell me will you.As for running a cab ive been at it long enough to know which vehicle is best suited to the job i do.The fairway was and still is the best purpose built vehicle made, thats why there is so many still doing the job they were built for.

Everybody today is looking for the quick buck.

I'm a cabbie in Bournemouth where there is a limit of 249 yellow taxis which is very similar all round system and holiday resort to Blackpool.

Blackpool council will have a list of people waiting for a free plate probably capped at 300 or so, if the limit is removed firstly the 300 or so people will have the chance of a free plate, secondly the PH,s will disappear in favour of being a more versatile taxi and thirdly surrounding cabbies in less lucrative area will jump on the band wagon and i guess every tom dick and harry out of work will give driving a cab ago.

The 250+ hacks in Blackpool will explode to 1500/2000 in a couple or three years or possibly more.

How do i know this, easy, it happened in Dublin 10+ years ago and they also have a similar type touristy town/city to me and Blackpool there trade has been decimated , they had around 3000 cabs 10 years ago they now have around 17000 licensed cabs plying for hire here there and everywhere.

The trade will be so diluted nobody would make any real money not that we do anyway ,most cabbies take around 10 pounds a hour and out of that comes all the over heads which are endless, OK we do better after midnight on a Fri/sat but so does every business has it highs and lows

The limit is there to keep the trade healthy, profitable, honest, reliable, manageable, safe, and serviceable with out limits you have the complete opposite.....

So is everyone driving a taxi in the 75% of the country that doesn't restrict destitute? :?

Or are you in the 25% that does restrict unable to cope with the competition? :-k
