How many cabs does this firm have, and how are they going to take everyone back to campus at the same time? #-o

I must say im surprised by the vile bitterness and bile aimed at a go-ahead company who have secured work for their fleet owners, jealousy is not attractive guys...

New taxi rank for university

A taxi rank is to be installed near the University of Leicester.

Last month, the university's Students' Union banned all but one taxi firm, Street Cars, from driving on to the campus in the evening.

It is understood the firm paid about £10,000 for the privilege – a figure neither the union nor company would confirm.

After a series of meetings between the council, drivers and the police, a rank with space for seven cars is to be installed in University Road.

Black cab driver Gurpal Singh Atwal, secretary of the RMT Union in Leicestershire, said: "It is not ideal, but it is better. At the moment, we are not able to get into the university or stop on the road, but this will at least let us stop in the road and give students some alternative.

"I would prefer, however, that customers did not have to cross the road to get to taxis, as I am worried about safety."

The rank will be installed on a temporary basis by the end of the month. After six months it will be reviewed by the council, which will decide whether to make it permanent.

Assistant city mayor councillor Piara Singh Clair said: "We consulted with taxi operators, police, the University of Leicester and ward councillors to come up with a suitable solution. It was agreed a designated taxi rank on University Road was the best way forward and I'm confident this will help resolve the problem."

It would also help if everyone under cut street cars and keep undercutting them also loads of flyer's posted informing that the cabs at the rank will always be cheaper

As far as I can see there are two ways to fight this!

In a way Skippy's idea has some merit by making it unattractive for the drivers of the company concerned - drivers being what drivers are will soon be taking other/alternative work thus letting the students down who book - the feed back to the company will be complaints from drivers and students - and a wish NOT to part with 10K next year .

The other option would be, and as much as it hurts "SHORT TERM", would be not to pick them up on return journeys - I stand by what I said earlier, and that is that the company concerned will not be able to handle the numbers wishing return to the Uni of which will almost certainly be a mass "I want a taxi NOW time". On cold winter nights they will remember the company that let them down!!

No Edders, thats not how it works, cut the fare and word soon gets around and you earn more.
Now think of this logically your sitting on the rank at full fare the cab behind you is £1.00 cheaper, now who is the punter going to use, and before you say you, the punter can use any cab of a rank.
Scenario 2, you go on the P iss, one pub is selling pints at around £3.00 the other is only £2.00 for the same pint, what pub do you go in
Over the last year I have never had a bad week, in fact takings are up, yet those who charge the full fare are struggling

I think Skippy's spinning fairies here, if he regularly steals work from the back of taxi ranks by undercutting his colleagues I cannot see any self respecting group of Hacks putting up with him for very long! Good idea though to have a united lower fare to beat these carpetbaggers on the University...but united and Taxi drivers are not often associate

That's because everyone is flocking to the cheapest. What do you do when everyone else decides to do what you are doing or does it even cheaper?

Race to the bottom methinks.
