'No need for more black taxis'

HULL: A new report says there should be no change in the number of black cab licences in the city.

The recommendation follows a city council-commissioned survey carried out by consultants into the demand for hackney carriage licences.

The current limit of 170 licences was set three years ago. The survey found there was no evidence of any further demand for black cab licences.

In the survey drivers said trade had dipped in recent years with most blaming the recession.

Who knows, but I doubt SUD surveys will remain the same no matter what the LC come up with.

I would hazard a guess that things won't change that much in those areas without restrictions. I would suspect that most authorities which deregulated are top heavy with more wav's than saloons by now. Instead of doing a wheelchair bound customer two to three times a week 15 years ago, I'm now doing maybe two to three a year....

I suspect the council made this decision to keep the Hackney's onside after having lost control of P/H touting in ULL
