If you want the digitax check out eBay do a search "digitax meter" there are a few for sale...

still has to be fitted, calibrated and the meter set to a tariff

plus a new one fitted has a warranty, all for £200 (ish), at least they dont have to calibrated regular like a tachograph

our LA charges £35 for the hackney meter test

Never mind

1.6 diesels are fine if you treat them right I myself have a octy 1.9 TDI pd the now and hardly go by half throttle I know the 1.6 isn't massive but if you floor it all the time you will damage the car I know this I have drove a 1.6 octy and superb before and they don't need full throttle all the time the power delivery is more smooth through the cr system than the pd i'v seen a few 1.9 go through turbos too but with harsh driving if you take it easy on the car it will be fine one of the drivers up here had a 02 plate octy a few years ago past 460,000 still on original gearbox and engine and turbo but maintained the car well and took it easy no full throttle action is the way to keep the car in decent knick

the kerbside weight of the Superb is about 500kg less than the Octavia, I wonder where they trimmed that from off a bigger car?

No, you have got it wrong. The kerbside weight of the Superb is 500KG less that the axle weight of the Octavia.
The kerbside weight is the weight of an empty car sat at the kerbside. The axle weight is the maximum weight that the axles are rated for. This would include a full tank of fuel and 5 passengers weighing 75 kg each plus luggage etc.

Do a google or phone your local turbo place and youl see that the 1.6 diesel eats turbos and once they start theres no stopping them. Ford now recomend that a new engine is fitted once a turbo has failed. They need a engine flush each sevice and have to use a low ash oil. They really are a nightmare stay well clear of them

Well can assure you there are tons up here are sill getting bought a lot of 1.6 octys and superbs going back to 60 plates and are all doing well, service them at the preset intervals and DON'T THRASH THEM too many drivers think they can still be pushed to the limit like a 1.9 tdi but they can't they are designed for economy not peformence you want performance get a 2.0 tdi i myself don't drive hard half throttle does me to a tea and even with the superb, I drove a 1.6 tdi superb once for a week while my own taxi was getting repaired and must say low revs power is not good but above that it feels fine and after a few days I hardly recognised the power difference and hardly went by half throttle but when I got my own taxi back it felt like a rocket after coming from the 1600
