Gus believes that Scottish politics will swing back to the left after Independence, where it should have been all along.
That will never happen as part of the UK.
In that context, you are correct. Buses and letters are unimportant.
Salmond, if he achieves independence, will no doubt crown the achievement by retiring fairly soon afterwards.
The SNP will fracture down ideologic lines - left and right - in or out of EU, NATO - Republicans and Monarchists etc. It is in fact a very divided movement with one common cause.
It will not survive Independence intact.
