Police search for Bath minicab firm armed robber

A major police operation is under way to find a robber who held up a Bath minicab firm with a handgun.

The man went into the V Cars offices in Cheltenham Street at around 5.20pm yesterday and threatened workers with the weapon.

He made off with more than £500 from the firm and is still at large.

Police say they understand a member of staff was punched in the robbery but that the gun was not used.

V Cars managing director Dave Scaramanga said: "It seems likely that the attacker had been tipped off to the possibility that large amounts of cash are held at the Cheltenham Street office.

"This is not the case and company policy has always been to minimise any amount held on site at all times.

"The attacker struck just prior to us cashing up on Monday evening and was able to make off with £545 in cash – probably far from the result he was hoping for!"

No description of the robber has yet been issued.

Earlier in the evening, the Avon and Somerset police helicopter joined the search for the raider.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
