I suppose that the tachograph could be used, since presumably that can cope with a multi-driver scenario.

But these are easy to get round as well from what I've heard - where's agabbycabbie when you need him? :-s

With all due respect Steve I doubt if that idea is practical? I just can't see a council being that concerned about something that doesn't concern them.

On the other hand, whenever has practicality been a concern :?

Anyway, I suspect the rules and enforcement thereof would be the responsibility of the DfT rather than LAs, ie more like Income Tax compliance rather than fare regulation or suchlike.

I think it all boils down to what is defined as 'working time'.

If it's defined as the time we are driving with customers, then I think we are all safe. If however its defined as being available for work, be it on a rank or waiting for a radio job, then not many of us will be safe.

According to the BBC site, the Commission and the EU Parliament are split.

The Commission has suggested that no-one should work more than 65 hours a week.

Both the Commission and the Parliament suggest that the average number of hours worked by an employee should be calculated over one year, rather than four months.

The Commission has said that time when someone is on-call, but not working, should not be counted as working time. The Parliament has taken the opposite view.

Interesting times. :?

I see the council have organised the Horse drawn hackney Drivers to pick up the chit of the front carriage leaving the rank but who cleans up the Donkey chit from the Beach?

I'm all for donkey rights :D , but it seems that the council there are more concerned for the donkeys than those driving for the town's taxi plate holders.

Unbelievable

I wouldn't worry about it, as far as the Taxi trade is concerned it's not policeable.
