Pointless comparison.

How much do you make a shift, after expenses? And how many hours is your shift compared to that of a McD employee?

Really, well, you tell me, how much does a taxi driver earn, working a 40-hour week after allowing for sick pay, holiday pay, pensions and tax?

Oh and I should point out for the hard of thinking. I was drawing a comparison between jobs, earnings and the lifestyle I had twenty years ago, to what you could finance on a taxi driver's income now. #-o

As we don't know who you are, why would it matter?

Artur, are you being deliberately obtuse?

Let me put it another way. Twenty years ago, I had a mortgage, two cars, a wife and three of a family and all supported solely on the income I made from driving a taxi.

Now pretend you are working in MacDonald's, at today's date, and you are trying to do the same. Well, that's about where you find yourself driving a taxi in comparison to what I was earning twenty years ago. :-|

Yes the mortgage on the £35k mansion must have been colossal. And I doubt you had a Porsche and a Bentley parked out front.
You can still make a comfortable living if you're willing to work.
Twenty years ago you had woolworths on the high street but no more! Competition changes things. We both agree central and city should have been operating their own private hire by now.

I just think you became bitter (like a lot do) and you've thrown your toys out the pram cause you and Jasbar didn't get things your own way and have decided to rubbish the cab trade.

Okay, now knock of your tax, holiday pay, sick pay and pension? Oh and what about your rental or do you have a driver whom you are bleeding to increase your earnings?

Did you have a driver when you had your free plate?

Good point Artur regarding Skulls plate. After your outburst against me in the early hours on one of your posts "pretendy business man the Kaiser" your as bad as Jazzy Jizz and Skully nae baws.

Lets do the maths here for a minute.say I paid £40,000 for my plate over 5 years and had to pay back a total of £46,000 including interest. That means I would be paying £176 per week for 5 years to work my taxi. Now say I'm going to work the taxi for 20 years. Lets calculate what I would pay to rent a taxi for 20years, 1040 weeks at say 270 per week = £280,800.

I know what I'd prefer to do. But again Skull not everybody wants to have the hassle of having their own taxi.

Your argument is based on what you want not the reality of life.

Yes, I had a driver and both of us earned more than what Longshanks is earning right now, and that was twenty years ago. And for a fraction of the cost, a rental was around £30 a shift. So Lonshanks, has actually proven my case.

So much for your pretendy businesses .....#-o #-o #-o #-o

Great point Kaiser. Yes the rentals are too high.

Oh yeah Kaiser all you pay to keep your taxi on the road after you've paid your loan, is zero. You need a driver just to keep the business pretense going, how long would last if the driver had unfettered access to his own plate and how much would your "£46,000" plate be worth, then? Oh and how much, have you lost on the plate since you bought it, they tell me, they are selling for around 30K, that's if you can find a buyer. #-o #-o

And according to Longshanks, you are not earning what I was twenty years ago... #-o #-o #-o #-o

Honestly, Kaiser, you are a dreamer. I only surprise people aren't fighting to get into your trade, especially now with the recession and the Airport falling into the hands of Ph?

The only thing that's keeping you going is the driver because without one, you would be history. #-o #-o #-o #-o
