Council calls for mandatory training for all taxi drivers



COUNCIL chiefs in Aberdeenshire have called for mandatory training for taxi drivers.

Aberdeenshire Council spelled out its views in response to a government consultation on taxi and private car licensing.

The council response stated: “We believe there should be a mandatory training requirement for all drivers, regardless of the type of vehicle they drive.”

Aberdeen City Council also called for the training requirement to be set down in regulations or “at the very least” government guidance to ensure the same standard across the country.

The Scottish Taxi Federation said it did not believe there was a need to legislate for training.

It instead suggested that training could be a “reasonable condition” of a licence, with standards being set by the licensing authority.

I think mandatory training for all taxi drivers is an absolute must. And if they fail to meet the required standard, they are gone.

Take hssc, Longshanks and Dougie, for instance, they are quite obviously mentally retarded but still they are allowed to drive a taxi. How can this be right?

And I don't think your taxi trade is doing itself any favours by setting its standards so low.

Maybe all you need is some sort of psychological testing to weed these guys out.

You missed out Fat Boab and Artur and Molsey, they seem to be bonkers as well, no hope of passing a test now. Bet they're glad they've already passed.

Retrospective testing. That would be a real quality control.

Look, we both know that you would never pass a Psycho test. Just imagine the examination:

But at the end of the day I'm not a guy that's been led away by Edinburghs police on more than one occasion on violent outbursts. Neither have I been accused of beating my wife/partner

I'm sure these would go down well in psychology testing

Don't take everything so personally Longshanks, my post was based purely on my observations. You can hardly blame me for your own short comings. You never know. You might even pass the test, I doubt it, but at least you would have a chance.

Oh and look at it this way, it's all for the good of your trade. It's only unfortunate that you would no longer be a part of it.

Kaiser, you couldn't be more wrong. It would be people like Jim, and me setting the standard. And with that in mind, people like yourself wouldn't get beyond the stage of applying for a licence in the first place.

It would be, "sorry your application to become a taxi driver has been unsuccessful at this time..."
