Many, many words have been posted over the net concerning the goings on up there. Thankfully the council have now decided that the trade should be opened up, and those drivers that have been held back by out-dated and illegal practices, can now be their own boss. Not governed by someone who no-longer works in the trade.

The financial burden will still be higher for those new entrants, who will have to license WAVs, but in the end, in my opinion, it's a price worth paying to kick out the ponces from the Dundee trade.

I'm not sure from reading the story whether Dundee will go all WAV or just the new plates (as in Gateshead), but if it's the former then the ponces will probably stay, but there will be fewer of them.

Perhaps someone should ask the OFT to look into the fairness of a council asking some to pay up to £30,000 for a motor, and other a third of that, yet still charge the same prices.

But then again, perhaps not.

Until I started getting involved with TDO, I never knew anything about the Dundee trade, but know I do.

And what a bloody mess.

What about the section in the report about fares?

They want to encourage price competition by showing discounts in your window etc

So the guys with the cheap saloons will be advertising discounts, so the WAVs might get less work.

And a lot of people will start walking past them anyway!

Just the thing to encouarage more WAVs!!

Or if the saloons can't afford to discount then why should the WAVs be charging the same fare?

Thanks scot, the newspaper articles that I saw on the internet were a bit vague on whether it was all accesible vehicles or just the new plates, as happens in Aberdeen.

What about the plates with cars currently older than 5 years?

Have you got your application in yet? :)

ive just submitted my application today the council personnel said that the present hacks will have to change over eventually but no date was set yet wed,s courier said all hacks over 5 years old and any replacement vehicles would have to be wavs ,the insurance companies are giving some frightening quotes for new appliicants this will help keep numbers down im not sure if we will be able to pick up people with taxicards but most think we will if thats correct a certain company is about to lose a lot of buisness.
