So by that reckoning if I walked out of B&Q with a fancy drill worth £100, provided I showed my dissatisfaction with service and made a lesser offer, if B&Q did not accept I could legally walk out the store with the unpaid drill provided I gave them my name & address-Hmmmmm.

Let us know how you get on

I'd be in clink quicker than a ferret up a drainpipe!!

Well I got the phone call from the Lady Sergeant today at 1649hrs - so much for a "Couple of Days".

So I told the Officer that the meeting would include Chairman & Secretary of the Association.

I asked that the Traffic Police attend as well as the Beat Officer from the area in question. The Sergeant who oversees the "Night time economy" would also be needed.

She then added the Council to the Party.

I also asked that she contact her opposite number in Exeter and could we have the nice posters that the Cabs get in that Burgh with the back up that they promise......

So, from nearly having the one on one meeting next week, it looks like July. Still, as we have been asking for a meeting for 2 years - what's another month?

I have been given a Video and soundtrack from a Driver who appreciated my hand out - the Policeman sends one "Bilker" to get cash, then when he does not return, releases the other and tells the driver (Rough Quote) "It's a civil matter - our bosses have told us it's a Civil Matter, I'll give you his name and you can take him to Court. Your Association have agreed to this".

1. The Driver repeatedly states the 2006 act says it is an arrestable offence, the Association tell us to get the Police and it is not a Civil Matter.
2. The Association has agreed nothing with the Police - we have asked for meetings for years and have had none. (Until next week anyway.)
3. The Association objected to the incorrect and slanted view expressed in the Document produced by the Police and Council (As CC says so correctly "In collusion"). I am on the Committee of the Association and can personally verify this.

A laptop will also be in the meeting with the video available. Copies for the Police and Council will be provided.

My actions to date have now been accepted, condoned and supported by the Committee of the Plymouth Licensed Taxi Association at the Committee meeting held yesterday.

Accepted, Condoned and Supported by me as a member of the PLTA Committee or by you "Sussex"?

Of course I was in agreement with my actions, the whole committee other than me then agreed.

I am still interested if other areas have to face the same Police/Council collusion that we currently do.

I suspect they both started out with the best of intentions, but once their work was rubbished (quite rightly) they went into 'save arse' mode.

And that only made things worse.

I/we have agreed to hand out no more hand outs for now.

I/we have been asked to remove the "Handout" from the PLTA website and I/we have agreed. http://www.plta.org.uk/

You will note that I have directed, indirectly, those interested, to this forum.

The Police Sergeant refused to say that Officers would assist Taxi Drivers more than they "Do" at the moment.

Further meetings will follow - perhaps as part of the trade meetings with the Council.

Both Council and Police refused to follow the Exeter model - though the Council are producing a "Pamphlet" for passengers.

I/we are not happy, but for the first time in years we have a dialogue with the Police. Maybe we can get things to improve in time.

Other areas of concern were addressed - amongst which was over-ranking at the "Parade" in Plymouth. This was published today http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/Convoy- ... story.html and the Van and one Police Car are positioned exactly where Taxi Driver cause a "problem". How I wish we had had that at the meeting.

I will keep you appraised.

I think you will have to remind the police that they are actually there for us, it isn't the other way around.

If this was an ethnic or disabled group, not a taxi driving group, the police would be falling over themselves to help.

If the police start going back to their old bad ways, or don't improve, get a meeting arranged with your Police Commissioner.

I liked this that CC posted viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22469#p281734 (of course because I wanted it he had misquoted the source link for the first time ever I think, but my friend Google sorted that) and I wonder if Sgt XXXX likes it as well. I am waiting for the Committee nod to send it to her, as well as the Senior Council Officers.

The Police Commissioner is on the list for those to be approached, as is the Chief Constable.
