Taxi drivers bound by law to carry guide dogs’

Aberdeen Disability group raised concerns some drivers refused on ‘religious grounds’



TAXI: Aberdeen’s Disability Advisory Group raised concerns drivers were refusing to allow assistance dogs into their cabs.

ABERDEEN council officials have been told taxi drivers are legally bound to take guide dogs in their cars.

Concerns had been raised by representatives of Aberdeen’s Disability Advisory Group that some drivers were refusing to take the animals on “religious grounds.”

But a report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission has said: “There is a legal requirement to permit access to assistance dogs and such beliefs are not a defence against non-compliance.”
