Do you think that he has any legal qualifications to pass an opinion in the legislation?

No, but he might have passed it by a council solicitor.

Somehow, I doubt it.

Let's hope that's the case.

Any chance of sending a copy of the letter to the ombudsman to me or posting it on here?

If you want to send any details either send it via PM or via Alex at info@taxi-driver.co.uk who will send it on in confidence.

Don't let the enemy get any info that might help them.

Mr jogra4 please remind me if your council advertised the fees?

And if so a rough time line between agreeing to advertise and implementation of the fees.

iirc they did not advertise the fees i was unwell at the time and not on form unfortunately but my oppo assures me that no public notices have been published and at the moment we have a friendly reporter on the local rag checking the archives for the last public notice regarding fee increases

If the fees weren't advertised (in accordance with the law) then that will be the easiest decision the mush from the Ombudsman ever has to make.

i do hope so but i think it is about time everything was standardised in this country and we should really have a central body that does it all to take power away from all the poor sods who missed out being in the Gestapo lol

Dear Mr XXXXX

Request under freedom of information Act 2000
Taxi Fees

I refer to your email of 2 July 2013 and respond to your queries as follows.

1. Please provide full data used in making the calculation of 40%.

As previously explained, the 40% figure was calculated following a time recording exercise carried out internally several years ago. Please not previous advice that we do not follow a process of simply applying a 40% factor to all licensing activities, those not related to Taxi Licensing are excluded prior to making a calculation in relation to charges and then we make additional exclusions, for example, the cost of enforcement.

2. Please provide the date this calculation was made.

These recording sheets were made, and consequently lost in the fire, in 2008. There has been n appreciable difference in percentage of time spent on taxi related matters up until this year as numbers remain fairly constant. It is anticipated, however, that the unprecedented number of objections and enquiries this year may result in an increase.

3. Please provide the name of the company collating the information.

No company was involved.

I trust the above is of assistance.

That's rather convenient, and not exactly original

I think it helps Grandad.

If they have never seen how the taxi licensing function is funded, then how can they set a fee?

I like the bit where it says that because of the objections and enquiries the percentage is anticipated to go up this year.

I have just come off the phone from the Ombudsman. I should hear from them within 20 working days.
