One Thursday night back a few years ago I drove into the City centre to start work. Looking around cabs were parked up left right and centre........where the heck am I going to park up. I pulled up at a red traffic light and a hand goes up hailing me over. I pulled over to the guy all togged up in Army style fatigues'.....what can I do for you sir? I want to go to Rochdale........only an hour up the road! I asked did he say Rochdale, as in Rochdale, up Manchester way ? yes came the reply about an hour up the road!

I explained that Rochdale was more like 3/4 hours away. He wanted to know how much, so I rang one or two local companies that seemed a bit low....I mumbled a figure that I said it usually went for, and he agreed straight away £360........cash up front.

It turned out that he had come all the way down here to purchase a motor bike advertised on e-bay. He had checked before he left that it was for sale, only to find out when he knocked on the guys door - that the bike was not his to sell.

My vehicle is an E7 with the front passenger seat being one of the most uncomfortable rides you could wish for. Although I suggested he would be more relaxed in the rear of the cab, he said he preferred to sit in the front. During the course of the journey he told me he had been involved in a serious car accident, hospitalising him for quite some time, adding that at times he still did not feel right, making me feel very wary of him. Fortunately he slept for part of the journey and all finished well..........an uncomfortable journey that was softened by £20 notes.
