Girl's miracle escape from minicab crash

A MUM has told of her horror at her daughter's narrow escape when a car smashed into their house.

Amanda Bale, 19, had a lucky escape in the crash

Lorraine Bale, from Erskine in Renfrewshire, was at work when the call came to say a minicab had careered into her living room.

The vehicle came to rest just inches from where teenager Amanda had been lying on the sofa moments before. Lorraine, 49, said: "My daughter called me to say what had happened but she was so shocked she could barely speak and had to hand the phone to our neighbour.

"It was absolutely horrific to come round home and see the police, ambulance and fire crew outside my house."

A police spokeswoman said: "The incident would appear to be an accident. The driver of the vehicle hit the wrong pedal in an automatic car.

"He was left with slight injuries. We cannot say anything else at this time."

The car shot straight through a picture window and into the living room shortly after 3pm yesterday in Libo Place.

Amanda, 19, was off sick from work and lying on the sofa but - just moments before the accident - left the room to go for a shower.

Mum-of-four Lorraine said: "When I was allowed into the house I noticed Amanda's blanket inches from where the car came through.

"It was pure luck she wasn't hurt. I can hardly bear to think of what might have happened."

The family will stay in a hotel until the house is repaired.
