MAN IN COURT ACCUSED OF MURDER PLOT

A plymouth taxi driver is today in custody after appearing in court charged with asking a police officer to murder his wife. Nigel Cox, 39, is alleged to have attempted to persuade the police officer - referred to only as 'H' at Plymouth Magistrates' Court yesterday - to carry out the contract killing within the last 11 days, as reported in the Herald's later editions yesterday.

Cox, who lives at Leigh Court, Eggbuckland, is facing a charge that between June 6 and June 15 he solicited 'H', a serving police officer, to murder his wife, named as 35-year-old Amanda Jane Cox.

Cox was arrested at his home on Tuesday morning of this week.

He was taken to Charles Cross police station for questioning where he was charged with asking a police officer to carry out the killing.

Wearing an open-necked blue shirt and a Reebok jacket, dark-haired Cox appeared in custody before Plymouth magistrates yesterday.

He spoke only to give his name, address and date of birth.

His solicitor, Roger Page, told magistrates that there was no application for Cox to be released on bail.

Magistrates remanded him in custody on the grounds that he might commit further offences, interfere with witnesses or fail to surrender to custody.

Cox was remanded to appear at Plymouth Crown Court next Friday, June 24.

Police spokesman Sergeant Alan Mobbs said that the alleged murder plot had not been carried out and that Mrs Cox was unharmed.

I doubt it, if anything that he could be ranked up with the mush with 19 points, and the thieving ex-postie cabbie.

Wasn't there a convicted killer in Plymouth with a badge about a year ago steveo, it was certainly someone convicted of a serious assault at least.

My experience of Plymouth, we had holiday down there 12 years ago, maybe more, staying at a place in the area called Penny Come Quick, don't laugh this is a real place, great place, good holiday.

yep pennycome quick is a real area, apparently the story goes that years and years ago that area was all water right up to below the main railway station and there used to be a ferry going across. if you paid the guy an extra penny he would come quicker! and so it stuck!

I think part of the reason it seems so bad down there is the way they go about checking drivers.

Basically councillors seem to decide everything. Whereas in most other areas, someone with an iffy background doesn't get through the door.
