It's been like that for over a month.
I sent the chappie a mail a few weeks back but it would seem he's been unable to sort out the problem.

Fairwaydriver.org has all but been closed down due to a malicious Malware Hack attack.

We have joined him to form a new secure site for Fairway Owners, http://FairwayOwnersClub.com. The gateway site is up and running, the main Members only site is near completion, with a fully functioning, bells and whistles Members Forum soon to be revealed. We are already planning the first meet and are running a "Design a Logo" competition for the site and Club Grille Badges.

Have a look and leave your name and email on the contact page for updates. There is no site purely for private owners of Fairway and Fairway Driver Taxis, well there will be soon!

Twenty five quid a year to join?
You can run a forum for free on proboards.

Subs. are not finalised, yet, if it was just a forum, yes we would offer it free fill it with ads and let it run itself, apart from a bit of moderation.

A car club with paid subscriptions has more to offer. It gives a personal identity for the car owners and can also be a very sociable focus for people with similar interests. With a club, we are also in a position to negotiate with suppliers, venues, insurers, etc. In fact we are already well on the way to negotiating with a couple of Insurance Companies which will save members far more than their membership subs. A couple of venues has offered a place for meets etc. Other discounts for parts and accessories are being sort. etc

I would not expect anyone to pay to join just a forum, but a club where the benefits out way the subs. and a site full of useful info, help and the latest news and events.Yes I would.

Somewhere to get to know new friends with a similar interest, where we can have a say in organising events, help in forming local groups, swap stories, swap parts, swap advice. Yes I would.

The Fairway is not just some of the best motoring fun you can have, It is an icon, a classic. It needs preserving as much if not more than any classic car. It also needs a club.

Hosting, admin, site building, site maintenance, virus protection, the usual Car Club badges, certificates, membership cards, postage, labour etc. etc. needs funding, we have set £25 as a reasonable annual sum, this may go up but more probably down depending upon final costs when membership opens in a couple of months time.

We would be foolish to start a club that could not maintain itself and even more foolish to start one for Fairways without Baconsdozen, so what if anything would you members here pay, if they were a private Fairway owner and enthusiast?

Hi,
There is the London Vintage Taxi Association. They do all kinds of taxis but most of the members own FX4s. There was a rally in London in April celebrating the end of the Fairway there. 50 odd cabs turned up. Is it possible to partner yourselves with them? I don't want to pay for 2 subs...
BTW the Fairway Driver site was very good until it was attacked. I think I posted a few items on there...

Can't you start off a forum/web site and then start a seperate club section where people could pay a subscription to join?.
Personally I don't belong to any clubs or forms where I have to pay to join. Not a question of being tight (well, not really) but I belong to a lot and if they charged would have to select what ones I belonged to with price as a consideration.
It's a pity you had the problem with malware on the other site,it was coming along and getting a bit of attention..
I'll put some links to your new site on my web sites etc.
Hope it all goes well.

Thanks @baconsdozen, will seriously consider your advice. Aim is to have a really good club rather than a money making site, there have been and will be costs we'll have to meet, especially if we get all the things off the ground that I would like to see in a club. We are a bit like you, and don't join many clubs, especially ones we have to pay for. But my Fairway makes me smile evry time I drive it and I just want to share that with like minds.

We have usually been of the Groucho Marx persuasion when he said "Lady, I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member" or something like that  Will certainly make the forum available to everyone soon.

As Gary observes, the LVTA does have, and welcomes, Fairway members. I'm just wondering if there are enough of us 'enthusiast' owners, as opposed to 'cheap run about MPV until it fails the MoT' owners to sustain another club, and think that forming a Fairway section of LVTA might be worth investigating with LVTA. Personally, I'd be happy to pay an additional membership fee within the LVTA to join a Fairway section.

There were 50 cabs at 'Cabalcade' earlier this year, with a further 20 unable to participate. Roughly 20 of the 50 were pre-Fairway FX4's, so if the unable to participate 20 were all Fairways, we might guess that 50 owners were enthusiastic enough to want to join in. There are obviously more out there, but if only 50 wanted to join this very prestigious event, how many will join a club?

Don't want to be a spectre at the feast, and WILL join if you get off the ground. Good luck.

There are a lot of fairway owners outside the UK,quite a few in Holland for example and I know of a few in the USA and other countries.
Even where I live (Gorleston East Anglia) there are four within a half dozen miles and one or maybe two still being used for hire.
I don't go to shows, far too stuffy and full of people standing around posing or bragging about how much money they've thrown at their car,I don't belong to any clubs either, but often read and post on forums etc.

Hi!
I've been reading a while about this new Fairway club.
I think the guy at the root of this project has got everything wrong: to attract members you must first offer free content on your website!
The question of membership should come later, and the membership fee has to be discussed by a board meeting.
Here in France we have a club or association of London taxi enthusiasts, with a totally free forum: http://www.taxianglais.fr
You'd be amazed at the number of participants to that forum...

He has supplied a free forum for anyone to use, there was some sort of issue that was asking people to log on,thats been sorted now.
The guys trying hard and you can ask questions or post views and pics without paying a penny. Why not give it a go,fairway owners are usually a decent bunch.
The history section on the french web site is wrong. The fairway has a Nissan 2.7 Engine and a Japanese (Jatco) gearbox if its an auto. You don't know your FX4 from Fairway.

Well, I think the guy who wrote that history section has been a bit hasty in his presentation. But rest assured that he kows all the minutest differences between FX4 and Fairway models: he can tell the year of a cab just by the look of it! In fact he has owned many London taxis in his life since the 1970's and still owns a few, including a metrocab.
But who ever reads that section of the forum?
Most of the participants and contributors to the forum are not mechanics nor specialists, just keen enthusiasts who discovered the London Taxi one day and wanted to share their passion with other keen enthusiasts. So of course some of us are bound to make a few mistakes, I make a few myself... but we're keen to learn and progress!

But rather than assessing the accuracy of such or such topic on that French forum, what I wanted to stress is the economic model: first of all to offer free content and a free forum on the web, this can take two to three years to build as a viable website, then make it into a club or association, with membership fees, etc..
