They're built by the French so I'd avoid them.

God help you if the french man that built them was a muslim as well.

I'd check it for a tick before I got in it.

The best saloon taxi without a doubt is a superb, if I didn't have a superb it would be an Octavia,passat,mondeo,i40, or optima, vectra is like a smart car inside and the rear of an insignia is too cramped and vauxhalls can't handle the world of taxis/ph

Are Agila's not 1.0l engines? Is is dispatched to Asda or Tesco shoppers only?

One of the other drivers traded in his 10 plate Octavia 110.000 mile 1.6 TDI for a 63 plate chevrolet cruze, I laughed when he showed me it, there is not much space inside and it looks mini on the outside and there is a loud wine coming of the turbo already

If the whine is the gear box and not the turbo, CC may be able to advise!

Has anyone got one or know if anyone uses one of the above as a taxi? Is it big enough? Some drivers are considering downsizing from Mondeo/Vectra to Focus/Astra size cars to (they hope) save a few bob.

BTW the title refers to what some are saying they think is the best option (size wise). We already have 308s and Mazda 3s on the road which, if anything, look smaller.
Thoughts?

If my local taxi firm (north herts) ever sent me an Astra, I'd be calling another firm.

Mondeos, E7s, Insignias are the norm here.

Obviously not as superior as a Vito, but they suffice

Tell him to empty his bank account, it's going to cost him a fortune.

I've gone through 4 Astras (2006 - 2008 models) all of which were Estates. When ever I was paying my settle I would constantly hassle the lads for a different car. Fuel wise? Great, IMO at least. Two of the estates were ex Police, the other 2 were 1.4s from ADT security.
Bearing in mind I am 6ft4, the space I was left with was unbearable. I ended up having a complaint put in over my seat position! Once the guy I was settling off had a Vectra free, I insisted on taking it. Several months later I ended up in a crash, and alas back in the Astra (with a dead turbo). I now have my own '08 Mondy and absolutely love it :)
