I honestly cant believe backloading,taking jobs from back of rank is the norm in some places.(a lot by the sound of it !) Once might be a mistake, but try it too often here and i guarantee someone would put you on your ar5e

First cab around here... Unless they know you, or have a discount card, or prefer to use one of cab companies as they've told all the punters that 'independent cars charge more'
