You must remember that councils are different to the likes of us in relation to laws. They can only say or do something if there is a law saying they can, we can do anything we like as long as there isn't a law saying we can't.

So if nothing is written down, what law are you breaking?

However I agree it would be better if the council came onside, but FFS CCTV has been out for decades, how long do you/they want?

I disagree. I couldn't care less.

We have compulsory CCTV as a licensing condition. the council review footage, on average, one car a week.

As we have over 1000 licensed vehicles that means you have a one in twenty years chance of being called in.

I can live with that.

Has anyone got the definitive on this?

If I pay the annual licence to be my own Data operator can the Council object?

I think if the Council insist then they pay the licence and that is why you can't access the data, could you in this scenario pay your own licence then fit another system alongside? Could you use/share the same system?

Can one Council insist they are fitted and another insist they are not?

So many questions and never a definite answer.

No. The licensed is issued by the ICO, in fact the council would be deemed rather silly objecting to a legal requirement.

I'm not sure the law allows councils to do that.

Indeed, in the same way some councils insist on yellow cabs and some on white.

Looks like cctv for glasgows. Taxi / ph trades is now weeks away from being officially endorsed. A great campaign was fought. Best part is it's optional, with ourselves as data controllers. To those passengers opposed to cctv in taxis ? Walk on and get into another cab. I'll be quite happy with my cctv. !!!
