You don't, and that was my point in an earlier post. You have two choices, start your own association/union or restructure the existing organisations by submitting proposals for fixed terms in office for elected officials and vote the proposal through at the next AGM. It would probably mean changing your unions written constitution.
You can change the structure of your Union, but first, you would have to find out what percentage of the vote is needed, and then contact the members. It should be written into your organisation's articles of association.
Oh and all these guys currently serving on the committee won't give up without a fight. They don't want to be elected for a maximum term in office and never to return. They want the gravy train.

Skull after 52 years in the movement i am fully aware of the procedures to impose the changes you suggest, but more to the point i am fully aware as to WHO can vote those changes in MEMBERS. 600 00 OF THEM
Regular elections are of course essential and sadly do not take place for many officers within the GMB and Unite, i have of course attempted to change that situation and i believe it will happen within the next few years within the GMB
Let me give you an example within the GMB there 8 Regions each region has a Regional Secretary and you and i would expect this Reg SEc to be elected by the membership ?
but no He and its always a he is SELECTED by The regional ctte of that region at interviews held behind closed doors and the minutes of that meeting are not allowed to be read by ordinary members, My opinion is that process is OBSCENE.
I N lONDON FOR EXAMPLE THE REGION HAS AROUND 90000 MEMBERS OF WHOM 10 SELECT THE REG SEC ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL IN MY OPINION
These regional secs do not have a period of office its a job for life and they have very considerable powers even to the extent of being able to CLOSE Branch's.
This union the GMB has the audacity to state that it is a democratic organisation ..............no fekking way ................if you were to google" rebuild the gmb union" you will find a site dedicated to stopping this obscene practice..................you wont be surprised to learn that the member who set up this site was expelled for setting it up .....however other events currently in the pipeline will i believe rectify this sorry situation.
General secs of all Unions under law must be re.. elected on a regular basis, there is currently a case running regarding UNITE and the re..election of McCluskey where it is alleged that a multitude of DEAD members partook in the ballot, ensuring Mc Cluskeys re. election watch this space
I do not sgree with you in that all officers should only be able to serve one term in office, personal experience is that you cant buy experience A shop steward ctte man whatever will be increasingly effective after years on the job............just as you are a more effec tive cab driver.
All Unions have in built problems those Unions will only be reformed from the inside.
I will not trash 130 years of activity by attempting to create a new Union but i will fight tooth and nail to reform what exists and despite its appaling lack of democracy has achieved many triumphs in its History
Its worth noting that originated in the Print industry............where we had the PRE ENTRY CLOSED SHOP AND EVERY REPEAT EVERY POSITION WITHIN THE UNION IE FATHER OF THE CHAPEL [SHOP STEWARD] UPWARDS WAS UP FOR ELECTION WITHIN TIME SCALES .! 1 2 OR 3 YEARS ............AND NOTE THIS. VOTING WAS COMPULSORY YOU DIDNT VOTE YOUR YOU FINED GET FINED TWICE YOU WERE EXPELLED IE OUT OF WORK ................THE GOOD OLD DAYS

AND OF COURSE THE STRONGEST UNIONS
