Are you implying Trade sanctions if we Vote Yes?
We will though quite happily supply your electricity, at a price though!
I am not implying anything, I am merely stating a fact - the majority of Scottish goods and services are sold south of the border.
I was responding to your response to Sussex - he stated
"But you ain't having our pound." which effectively means as and when Scotland is independent it will have a choice which currency to use.
Now the argument is such that Scotland has three choices - stick with a pound which is determined by the UK government in terms of rates and suchlike - to which the Scots will have very little input - indeed which could actually be contrary to Scottish Government wishes as they have already mooted the idea of lowering corporation tax to Ireland type levels to attract business. This would obviously p*ss off the UK government.
They could start their own currency - which would possibly be a no brainer as it isn't clear if the Scots would need to apply to the EU for membership, if the EU insist they need to re-apply they will insist on the Euro.
Or they could go with the Euro regardless, which would p*ss off a lot of Scots (and English close to the border) and in any case has already been effectively ruled out by the Scots government.
A monetary union makes sense not only to Scotland but England also, the Scottish government knows the value of its trade and future trade as now is becoming clear Westminster and now the BOE as well, they are starting to fear that independence is going to happen.
The EU has a monetary union with many partners, it's a mess because it carries negative equity in countries like, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Ireland, these countries have nothing of significance to trade, I'm sure you agree Scotland has a hell of a lot to trade and use when negotiating any terms of a monetary union with Westminster.
Now we can believe what ever side of the political point scoring spin you like but the fact is, Scotland has a lot to offer Sterling and we all know that, without Scotland's trade Westminster could be forced by their own mistake, ego or whatever you like to call it, into accepting the euro as their currency, losing Scotland's trade is suicide for Sterling, both governments know this, Scotland going in to negotiations with Westminster have a strong hand.
Chaos created if Scotland is forced ( won't be though ) to create its own Scottish pound or dollar, all I will say on this is, we could have 3 different currencies circulating the UK, now let's look at the chaos in Ireland when they starting using the week euro, trips across the border where very common, does it not make sense to accept a monetary union to stop confusion and chaos, does it not make sense that our finances are governed by a central bank, it does to me, some will say but that's not true independence but I say, with the trade Scotland has we would gain a bigger say, a seat at the table, a fair and equal deal for Scotland and hey maybe just a better deal for the people of the rest of the UK.
We are insignificant as part of the UK, Scots will become massively more significant, we will have a roll to play as far as making politicians and political parties more accountable, our voices will be heard, our votes will count, all this doesn't count with Westminster, and hey why hasn't England got a devolved government, the rest of the UK has, sorry guys wake up and smell the coffee, Westminster has never had your best interests at heart, your just a number, when your government wants to frack the ground you walk or drive on and the government up North wants to harvest the sea bed for massive amounts of electricity asks yourself who out of the two is acting in there electorates best interest, Scotland's government has shown in a short period how to balance it's powers, Westminster acts without concern, we again are all just a number!
