Well, instead of wittering on about your deposit, ask them for fully comp and split the difference on the increase. What's a few hundred quid when they are shafting you for 4K, you are already a grand out of pocket, what choice do you have? I can't imagine you being inundated with cheaper insurance offers. Oh and chances are, if you have a prang (excess, what £500- £750) you'll be back to driving before long anyway. Four or five grand will look cheap in-comparison to your next quote.
