Taxi Driver Online

Hello this is my first post in this forum hopefully it's in the right place. I'm looking for a little bit of advice on insurance etc for newly qualified taxi drivers.
Ive been driving for 14 years with 9 years ncb on my own vehicle, cover my cab have just quoted me £2680 to insure a Citroen C4 for private hire is this a reasonable price for a new driver?

As you are no doubt aware you have no no claims bonus for your PH.

Go to TDO's home page and spend a day going through the insurance links there.

It will save you more than a days pay.

Play one insurance against another, but £2,680 might be a good price for your area. In some areas even drivers with some small amount of no claims are paying £5,000+.

That's not a bad price really.

Two of the insurers' we use would offer an introductory 1 Year Taxi Bonus if you have 2+ Years Taxi Experience, and over 3 Years NCD on a private car.

It's always difficult for new taxi drivers to get insurance. Up here we see them pay weekly for a year as they cannot afford the deposits for an annual policy. I think they end up paying in excess of £3,500 for their first year in weekly premiums.

My first year with SEIB was round £1200, but then I've been driving since they got rid of the man-with-the-red-flag in front of the car.

Thanks for the replies hopefully I've found a local taxi company that can supply the car and insurance for £150 a week.

does that include a radio/PDA/datahead for work?

do you keep the car 24/7 working or not?


here a car with it all is £300 a week 24/7 or £57 daily as and when

That's plus £115 office fee

It may be worth asking for a copy of the policy to make sure that you will actually be covered at your age. I have to declare all drivers under 25 or over 70 and an additional premium is payable for under 25s and there are also other restrictions.

When do I (you) pay? (start of a week or end)

How are accounts paid (weekly by docket subtracted from rent paid) or you invoice the base and wait 45 days

What %tage of the account cost do you get, i get 100% with no costs out the rent every saturday so they are as good as cash

OK thanks I'm going to see them tomorrow, they might have an 8 seated for me to use am I going to lose out or gain using it?

For:- carries 8 (extra money), might be wheelchair access
Against:- many folk request "car"

You can do no more than suck it and see.

If you are happy with that deal, and you are earning enough money to pay the bills, then good luck.

Don't however buy an ex PH on the cheap, you will end up paying fortunes in maintenance.
