Corby taxi firm counts cost after lightning strike hits premisesA Corby taxi firm is counting the cost of damage caused when the radio mast at its premises was struck by lightning.
The mast at Sky Cabs in Bardsley Road was struck during a storm on Sunday (August 10) at about 8.45am.
Since then engineers have been working to repair damaged equipment, including radios and computers.
Joe Hayes, chairman of the company which runs 95 Hackney cabs, said: “We want to apologise to our customers and everyone who has been trying to get through to us. This was a freak accident and we are trying to get services back to normal as quickly as we can.
“We would ask people trying to ring us to persevere.”
Mr Hayes estimates the cost of damage will run into tens of thousands of pounds.
He said: “We have contracts with clients but we haven’t been able to get in touch with people because all the numbers were on our database which has been affected.”
Mr Hayes said the company, launched 13 years ago, recently paid £150,000 for hi-tech equipment to improve its service and that it too has also been damaged.
He added: “People who are registered on our automatic booking service will still be able to book calls. In the meantime, we are doing everything possible to get back to normal.”
