Teenager raped in Tesco car park on night out after getting into 'taxi'A teenager was raped in a Tesco car park after getting into what she thought was a taxi on night out.
The 19-year-old woman had been on a night out in Dumfries when she flagged down a silver coloured four-door saloon car, thinking it was a taxi.
The driver then took the woman to the Tesco car park in the Hardthorn area where she was raped in the early hours of Sunday.
The attacker is described as Asian, in his late 20s to early 30s, of medium height and build.
He was wearing a dark coloured T-shirt and jeans and did not have a local accent.
Detectives have said extensive enquiries are under way with officers scouring CCTV images from the surrounding areas.
Additional patrols will be in the area to offer reassurance to the local community who may be concerned when they hear of this incident.
Detective inspector Fiona Bell said: "I am appealing to anyone who has any information regarding this crime, in particular anyone who may have noticed the car.
"If you think you may have seen it during the evening or have any knowledge of the crime, then please do get in touch with us.
"A small piece of information could aid the investigation and lead officers to tracing the man responsible for this attack."
